This system allows the Impulse Gundam to perform at the level of multiple mobile suits combined.

The development of the Impulse Gundam was a result of both the migration of Orb engineers to ZAFT and feedback from the technology used in ZAFT's First Stage mobile suits. The model number "ZGMF-X56S" signifies its experimental status ("X"), its weapon-exchange capability ("5"), its development number ("6"), and its Second Stage designation ("S"). Like other Second Stage mobile suits, the Impulse Gundam inherits key features from first-stage models like the Freedom and Justice Gundams, surpassing the capabilities of mass-produced units of its time.

The Impulse Gundam’s unique feature is its ability to combine different components—Core Splendor, Chest Flyer, and Leg Flyer—into a complete mobile suit, enhancing its survivability and operational endurance.
