In this video I explain my experience implementing a technique called the "Poor Man's Process". The "Poor Man's Process" is a technique used in filmmaking to create the illusion of a character driving a car without actually filming the actor behind the wheel. This is typically done by filming the actor in front of a blue screen, green screen or now days, even an LED wall or volume, and then compositing the shot of the actor into a pre-recorded shot of a car driving on a road. This technique is called "Poor Man's Process" because it is a cost-effective way to create the illusion of a character driving a car without having to pay for the logistics of filming on the road or renting a car. Now I know what you’re thinking. Shooting using an LED wall doesn’t sound cost affective. Now I would also agree so perhaps the term “Poor Mans Process” needs updating. None the less, some great examples that you’ve probably seen are some shots in the Fast And Furious franchise and The Batman where variations of the technique were used.
