Severne Fox 105 review

I’m a 72kg, 177cm amateur windsurfer. This board is too big for me, and possibly too big for the conditions I tested it in. So keep that in mind.

My current board an oldish Starboard iSonic 86litre rocket board - is amazing. It’s actually quite fast in choppy Port Phillip Bay. However, it gybes terribly. Or rather over all these years, I’ve never figured out how to gybe it properly. It feels like it was designed to go fast in a straight line, and that’s about it. It has no lateral stability. It has very little volume under the footstraps. So unless you’ve found the exact spot to step across during a gybe - every gybe turns into a pivot gybe.

So I thought I’d demo the Severne Fox. It was designed for choppy conditions, and my local waters are super choppy.

The Severne Fox 105lt (2018) that I tested was:

Very stable underfoot
Longitudnally - you can see the nose stays put even with the chop. This makes for an easy session where I can let my mind wander.
Laterally - Gybes were very stable - not as beautiful as my Starboard Kode, but much much better than the Starboard iSonic.
Not as fast as my iSonic. I felt like the fin was holding the board back a little. With my iSonic, it’s usually my sail that tops out. With the Fox, I felt like the fin was holding the board from going any faster
Keep in mind that I’m light, and the 105 liter Fox was way too big for me and the conditions.

In conclusion:
I love the board shape.
It does work really well in choppy conditions
It has a very stable gybe
Not the fastest board - but more fun in rough conditions
I wish there was a smaller size than the 95. Something in the 80's would be perfect for someone with my weight.
