Aged 25, Faraz Shibli spent two months leading a herd of Bactrian camels 1,600km across Mongolia's Gobi Desert. Navigating from well to well with the aid of Soviet-era maps, he faced stampedes, sandstorms and twisters, gaining along the way a fascinating insight into the lives of desert nomads in one of the harshest and most fragile environments on Earth.
This is his subsequent lecture to the Royal Geographical Society, London, on 12 March 2012.
