In this video we look at flowers and plants typical of the Winter season which are depicted in Japanese Art: including the pine tree, the bamboo, the plum tree (the "Three Friends of Winter") and the Camellia flower. We look at a variety of objects (woodblock prints, paintings, lacquer and metalwork) from the collections of the MET and of the British Museum.
As a source I used this book: "Fiori d'Oriente: Arte e Poesia. Metafore e Simboli nella Cultura Artistica e Letteraria del Giappone", by Donatella Failla, published by Comune di Genova, Settore Musei, 2011
