Meet Wayne – diagnosed with PBC in 1992

Wayne is an electrical engineer in the Memphis area, who enjoys leading an active life with his wife, Elaine. Between the 2 of them they have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. Wayne was diagnosed with PBC in 1992.

As a man, Wayne is in the minority of patients with PBC. Men only represent 10% of the patient population. Wayne’s father was also part of this population.

Wayne was diagnosed with PBC when he applied to increase his life insurance coverage and a blood test showed liver abnormalities.

When Wayne was first diagnosed he worried about how PBC would affect his marriage and the rest of his life. However, Wayne found comfort in his PBC support group, because it was the first time he saw anyone with PBC besides his father and it made him feel like he was not battling PBC alone. Wayne and his wife are now very involved in their PBC support group, which aims to educate people about the disease and how to receive help managing it.

Wayne is excited for the future, which he sees including going to dog shows, visiting family, and maybe even a trip or cruise with his wife.
