Just after Trump announced a headline-grabbing oil development deal with Pakistan, Islamabad faces embarrassment as a top Balochistan leader publicly debunks Pakistan’s claim of “massive” oil reserves. Mir Yar Baloch wrote to Trump, warning that the bulk of untapped oil and mineral reserves actually lie in occupied Balochistan and accused Pakistan’s military of misleading the US. Reports say that Pakistan’s proven oil reserves remain modest at about 353.5 million barrels, ranking it only 52nd globally and able to cover less than two years of domestic demand at current consumption rates. Energy experts further note that Pakistan’s much-hyped undiscovered reserves are still unproven, with no commercial drilling or viable extraction.
