O sable-tided queen, enthroned ‘midst brine and gloom,
Where drowned cathedrals toll their bells of ashen doom,
Thy argent tresses writhe like serpents steeped in foam,
Abyss-born empress, claiming tempest as thy home.
In caverns vast where mortal breath dares not to creep,
Thou keep’st the secrets slain within the weeping deep,
Each whisper’d wave a dirge, each crest a lover’s cry,
For all who taste thy lips are doom’d but not to die.
O Calypso, thou siren robed in night,
Thy gaze eclipse the frailest shards of light—
What soul escapes thy velvet, crushing reign?
What heart survives the rapture of thy pain?
Hail, Ocean Goddess Calypso, dread and divine,
With chalice of salt and venomous wine,
Thou bind’st the stars to thy merciless tide,
Where yearning and oblivion cohabit and abide.
O Calypso! O Calypso! Sovereign of despair,
Thy love is a snare no mortal may forswear.
Thy palace wrought of coral bones and widow’d pearls,
Adorn’d with relics pilfer’d from the upper worlds,
The ribs of ships thy arches, keels thy vaulted throne,
A graveyard crown’d in majesty thou call’st thine own.
Thy laughter ripples black through kelp-entangled halls,
A hymn profane that lures the bold to briny falls,
And there they kneel, enchanted, breath and will undone,
To worship thee beneath a never-setting sun.
O Calypso, in languor cold and grim,
Thy mercy fades where daylight’s edge grows dim—
What man may flee thy languid, cruel embrace?
What god withstands the silence of thy face?
Hail, Ocean Goddess Calypso, dread and divine,
With chalice of salt and venomous wine,
Thou bind’st the stars to thy merciless tide,
Where yearning and oblivion cohabit and abide.
O Calypso! O Calypso! Sovereign of despair,
Thy love is a snare no mortal may forswear.
Lo! Hear the dirge of drowned eternity resound,
Where time lies strangled, never lost nor ever found,
Thy kiss—a sacrament of sorrow richly spun,
Bestoweth deathlessness where death hath been undone.
In thy embrace, all earthly grief is made sublime,
A velvet prison wrought beyond the reach of time.
Hail, Ocean Goddess Calypso, veiled in the abyss,
Bestower of ruin in rapture’s darkened kiss,
Thou reign’st where hope and horror intertwine,
An endless hymn in minor, mournful design.
O Calypso! O Calypso! Let all the world beware—
For none who love thee rise again to air.
So sing the waves in somber, ceaseless prose,
Of she who grants eternal, sweet morose—
Calypso reigns where mortal prayers collapse,
In ocean’s grave, where time itself entraps.
