For thirty years, FSCJ published Kalliope, a nationally- recognized journal of women’s art and literature. Though it was discontinued in 2008, the work in Kalliope remains vibrant and relevant today. In this program, a panel of distinguished guests from University of Florida, who will be discussing the importance of Kalliope Magazine and how they continue to use it in their teaching and research.
The program begins with a brief introduction from Library Public Services Coordinator Jennifer Grey, who offers a snapshot look at Kalliope's founding and development. From there, Florence Turcotte, Literary Manuscripts Archivist at UF’s George A. Smathers Libraries, discusses how she came to work with the Kalliope collection at UF and Prof. Marsha Bryant, Professor of English and UF Distinguished Teaching Scholar, offers an overview of how she uses the magazines in her class and some of her students' reactions to the publication. The event continues with presentations from three graduate students - C.R. Dean, Annesha Palit, and Abiola Emmanuel - who explain how they have used Kalliope in their research. The event ends with Q&A session.
