In this at-home session, we worked on sight words, counting, reading, and played a new Jenga game with dice. He was skeptical at first, but he stayed with it.
The reading portion means a lot to me. For years, I stopped reading to him. Life got heavy and we fell out of the habit. Then I started reading again myself after being inspired by book creators and Mychal the Librarian, who encouraged autism parents to bring their kids back to the library.
When I brought my son, he picked up a book. That moment stayed with me. I realized maybe I could teach him to read.
In this video, you’ll see him typing words from the book into his tablet. Some people say that’s just copying, not reading. Maybe it is copying right now. But I also see how he reacts to written words in his environment. When he sees certain signs, he understands what they mean. He responds to them.
That tells me something is happening.
So we keep going.
These sessions are about more than programs and goals. They’re about access, confidence, and giving him every opportunity to build skills in his own way and in his own time.
