White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked if the US was pursuing 'regime change' in Venezuela, as she held a press briefing in DC on Thursday.

"President Trump has said Maduro doesn't want to mess with the United States. And this administration is continuing to position more military assets towards Venezuela. I'm wondering if the end goal of this narco-terrorist war is to implement a regime change in Venezuela," she was asked.

"The president has spoken on that, Reagan, and I certainly won't get ahead of him. What we've made very clear is that this administration is not going to tolerate international narco-terrorist organisations from trafficking drugs into the United States," she replied.

Last week, Trump said Maduro didn't want to 'f*ck around' with the US, as tensions continued to escalate. Washington has condemned Caracas for alleged drug smuggling - and fired on a number of 'narco-boats' - while Venezuela has accused the US of modern-day imperialism and of trying to seize its resources.

Speculation that Trump is actually angling for regime change in Venezuela is mounting, but it is not the only country whose domestic affairs or relations with other countries Trump seems determined to interfere in. The US president has also made comments about, or direct moves towards, the internal affairs of Brazil, India, Israel and Argentina, among others.
