What is the difference between religious relativism and religious pluralism?
Pluralism (in the 4b sense) is essentially about social relations. Relativism says that each person or group of people defines their own truth, establishes their own ethics, and chooses their own values, and none of those truths, ethics, or values are inherently any more true, ethical, or valuable than any others.

Religious pluralism is the state of being where every individual in a religiously diverse society has the rights, freedoms, and safety to worship, or not, according to their conscience. This definition is founded in the American motto e pluribus unum, that we, as a nation, are gathered together as one out of many.

India can be seen as the best example of religious pluralism. It is a nation with a Hindu majority but it is also home to various minority groups with different religious and cultural backgrounds.

Religious pluralism is both an opportunity and a problem. It can be an opportunity because when multiple religious beliefs coexist, it allows for a greater exchange of ideas and worldviews. It also enables people increased freedom to choose their personal faith because they are exposed to a variety of possibilities.

And Religious Relativism argues that at least one, and probably more than one, world religion is correct and that the correctness of a religion is relative to the world-view of its community of adherents.

In general, particularism is associated with the traditional position of Christian theology that salvation is only available to people through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Hence, it allows the existence of multiple religions in a given society and encourages religious tolerance. The beauty of pluralism is its flexibility which makes religious practicing a wilful act and religious conversion a choice and not a force, although it has the tendency to encourage syncretism.

a. Epistemic Conflict. It is an undeniable fact of religious diversity that many traditions offer various accounts of the nature of both mundane and supramundane reality, of the ultimate ends of human beings, and of the ways to achieve those ends.

Religious pluralism existed in medieval Islamic law and Islamic ethics, as the religious laws and courts of other religions, including Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism, were usually accommodated within the Islamic legal framework, as exemplified in the Caliphate, Al-Andalus, Ottoman Empire and Indian subcontinent.
