The posterior horns of the spinal cord are where we receive information from the body and the outside world into the central nervous system.
Nerves communicate with each other through spaces between them called synapses.
In Body-Mind Centering®, we call resting or pausing in these spaces ‘sitting in the synapse’. This exploration is about sitting in the posterior horns of the spinal cord synapses.
Sitting in the synapse is about simply receiving information. Not doing anything about it – not thinking about it, not being sensitive about it, not wondering what it feels like. Those are all motor responses.
This is just about receiving and opening our awareness to the information, without directing or responding to it.
Sitting in the synapse can be helpful when we start to tense or stress about something.
Come back to sit in the space of the synapses of the posterior horns of the spinal cord. Allow the information to travel to other areas of the nervous system, including the brain, to process without interfering. Absorb the information in an easy way rather than inhibiting or forcing a response.
This clip if from Bonnie's course Embodied Anatomy and the Nervous System.
