[00:00] In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
[00:02] Allah states that the Qur’an was sent down during the Night of Decree, a blessed night in Ramadan.
[00:12] Its revelation began on Laylat al-Qadr, bringing immense mercy that cannot be fully repaid with gratitude.
[00:26] It is called Laylat al-Qadr because of its great status and because yearly decrees of lifespans, provisions, and other matters occur in it.
[00:37] Its greatness is emphasized by the question: What can make you know what the Night of Decree is?
[00:46] It is better than a thousand months, meaning worship in it surpasses worship done over more than eighty years.
[01:03] This is a special favor granted to this nation.
[01:18] The angels and the Spirit descend during it with divine commands.
[01:29] It is peace until dawn, filled with goodness and safety from sunset to sunrise.
[01:46] Authentic hadiths confirm its virtue and that it occurs in Ramadan, specifically in the last ten nights, especially the odd ones.
[02:00] It continues every year until the Day of Judgment.
[02:00] The Prophet observed i‘tikaf and increased worship during the last ten nights seeking it.
[02:13] The explanation of Surat al-Qadr contains six key points.
[02:27] First, the Qur’an was sent down as a complete written revelation to the lowest heaven on this night, distinct from its gradual recited revelation to the Prophet.
[03:39] Revelation thus occurred in two forms: a complete written descent and a gradual revealed recitation.
[04:21] Second, the night is named for its high status and for the decreeing of yearly matters, as indicated in the verse about the blessed night in which every precise matter is determined.
[05:39] Third, the phrase asking about the Night of Decree highlights its great rank and significance.
[06:29] Fourth, the deed mentioned as better than a thousand months refers specifically to night prayer, recitation, and supplication performed with faith and seeking reward.
[07:14] It does not refer to all general good deeds, and focusing on other acts instead of prayer and recitation during it departs from the intended meaning.
[08:35] Fifth, a thousand months equal eighty-three years and four months, showing that it exceeds eighty years.
[09:30] A hadith states that most lifespans in this nation range between sixty and seventy years.
[09:50] The Qur’an contains subtle indications connected to various sciences and disciplines.
[10:16] Sixth, the phrase “Peace it is” can mean that safety comes from it, and that one is safe during it.
[11:23] A linguistic distinction is made between “al-Salam,” from which safety is obtained, and “al-Salim,” the one who is safe.
[11:46] The example of the fire made peace upon Ibrahim shows that he was made safe from harm.
[12:18] This distinction strengthens the understanding of peace in the verse.
