By July 21, 2021, terrifying video of flooding in China's Henan province began hitting the internet. No matter where you are in the world, you've probably seen video of people trapped in a flooding subway in Zhengzhou, or hundreds of cars floating out of a 5-km-long tunnel.
I live about 950km away from Zhengzhou in Shanghai, so I decided to drive toward the disaster zone to find out: How were ordinary people dealing with what some were calling once-in-a-thousand-year flooding?
我们通宵驱车950公里，从上海到郑州，记录千年一遇的洪灾。到了当地得知，新乡的灾情更为严重，于是不眠不休，继续上路：去看看那边的普通百姓如何自救。
