Описание: DAYTON -- We're learning more about the deadly virus that's suspected of killing at least five dogs in the state of Ohio.Coming up this weekend is the National event at Pet Smart. and we wanted to know why some groups are still planning to show their dogs in the light of the dangerous virus, while others are taking precautions. We're in the business of not only saving lives but of course finding homes for animals, said Brian Weltge, President and CEO of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.Weltge is aware of the mysterious virus, but isn't ready to cancel this weekend's plans.Part of our goal is to be out in the community as much as possible and so this weekend is no exception, said Weltge, We're going to be at Pet Smart, three different Pet Smarts throughout the weekend. It's an event that Pet Smart holds every year to help homeless dogs and cats find loving families. It's a little premature for us to be canceling events but we are monitoring it and we want to make sure our animals are safe and everyone else's animals are safe but at this point in time we are cautiously moving forward with the events so we can find homes for pets, said Weltge. We've learned the virus is spread in areas where multiple dogs are, like dog parks. It's because of that, that several rescue groups are keeping their dogs out of the public eye.We are asking our fosters to keep our dogs and their dogs at home, said Blake Jordan, Assistant Director for Miami Valley Pit Crew and Rescue, In the yard is fine not out in public no dog parks or anything like that. They're taking all precautions because of the unknown. They don't know exactly what's causing the illness and how to treat the illness, said Jordan, It's better to have the dogs safe in the home rather than out in public get sick and then not know how to treat it and the dogs end up dying from it.And once more is known about the deadly virus, others will be following suit.As soon as we hear that there is more concern then we'll reevaluate what we're doing with our schedule, said Weltge. There have been no confirmed cases of dog deaths here in the Miami Valley connected to the virus.Symptoms to look out for include, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, weight loss and is lethargic.
