One of the first transformable mobile suits developed by Anaheim Electronics was the Delta Gundam, which could quickly transform between its mobile suit and mobile armor forms. However, the movable frame was too fragile for combat use, and they would later develop the more robust Methuss and Zeta Gundam. The Delta Gundam was instead developed into the non-transforming Hyaku Shiki.
By UC 94, Anaheim was able to develop a new Delta Gundam variant by adding the Hyaku Shiki and Zeta's data: the successful Delta Plus, which could transform into a sleek Waverider mode capable of unassisted atmospheric reentry while maintaining a robust inner frame. It's worth noting that the Delta Plus also shares some weaponry with the mass-produced ReZEL, as they share the same model of beam rifle as well as a burst-fire beam weapon in their shields.
