Our Tour of Creevelea Abbey
Located on the Edge of Dromahair
Hi All, welcome to Escape with Dawn Porter.
This week, my mum Margaret and I went to see the magnificent Creevelea Abbey. This early 16th-century Franciscan friary is a National Monument located in Dromahair, County Leitrim, Ireland. Despite being in ruins, Creevelea Abbey continues to serve as a graveyard, adding a somber yet beautiful touch to its historical charm.
As we explored the ancient structures, we were struck by the serene and timeless atmosphere that enveloped the abbey. The stone walls, now weathered and worn, told stories of a time long past. The architecture, though partially crumbled, still displayed the intricate designs and workmanship of the Franciscan friars who once inhabited the abbey.
Walking through the graveyard, we felt a deep connection to the generations who had come before us. The gravestones, some old and covered in moss, stood as silent witnesses to the lives that once flourished in this peaceful corner of the world.
Creevelea Abbey is not just a place of historical significance; it is a testament to Ireland's rich heritage and enduring spirit. It is a place where visitors can reflect on the passage of time and the enduring beauty of the past.
