Alexei Sayle is an author and comedian from Liverpool, UK. Throughout the 1970s and 80s during the rise of Thatcherite neoliberalism, Sayle played a central role in the burgeoning "alternative comedy" scene, fusing a surrealist artistic temperament with a politically conscious, left-wing comedic wit.
Sayle has created a number of television and radio series for the BBC, most recently his "imaginary sandwich bar" for Radio 4. Here he talks to us about that show, as well as the relation between artists and gentrification, comedy in the era of global Trumpism, and how Boris Johnson knows fuck all about cars.
