The United Kingdom's Fight For Gay Rights | Rupert Everett's Shades of Gay

Описание: We reflect on the long history and fight for rights in the United Kingdom, by touching on the legal and social struggles faced by gay people. The criminalisation of homosexual acts and societal prejudice illustrated how challenging it was for gay individuals to live openly. Over the past few decades, however, things have been slowly evolving. This involves the inclusion and the acceptance of gay relationships and marriages, the diminishing stigma, and the impact of positive representations in mainstream media like television. Still, it is important to point out that the fight is far from over, and only by looking at the mistakes of the past can we move forward and build a better society that is acceptive and supportive of everyone, equally.

From the World Wars and the atomic bomb to the Space Race and digital revolution, The Modern Age explores the world-changing events and people of the 20th century. Every week we'll be bringing you award-winning documentaries that journey into the century that defined our way of life.
