February 1 marked a significant day for Varanasi's Hindu community as prayers were conducted inside the Gyanvapi mosque. Varanasi's District Magistrate ensured the commencement of Hindu prayers in the mosque's basement, adhering to a court order. Earlier, the district judge permitted deity worship in the mosque's southern cellar, facilitated by priests appointed by the Kashi Vishwanath temple trust. A priest arranged by the trust performed the Shayan Arti of the deities, confirming compliance with the court's directive. As part of the measures, a gate was installed, cutting steel grills near the southern cellar doors. Mangla Arti ritual on February 1 morning was confirmed by officials. The court's order allowed the worship of Shringar Gauri and other deities, responding to a plea from the head priest of Acharya Ved Vyas Peeth temple. The district magistrate, appointed earlier as the receiver, took custody of the southern cellar on January 17.
