This video introduces the work of the REL alliance on Addressing Disproportionality in Discipline. Dr. Lauren Amos, the alliance lead, opens with an overview of exclusionary discipline and the current research on the racial disparities that exist in schools in the United States. The narrator explores the negative effects of exclusionary discipline, and the evidence-based approach taken by this alliance to identify and address discipline disparities that exist. The video also highlights the alliance work with the Maryland State Department of Education to analyze school discipline data to identify trends and characteristics of schools with disproportionate rates of exclusionary discipline for students based on race/ethnicity and disability status.
