Why Do Mormons Have So Many Kids?

I have always wanted to ask. As a Mormon, why do you have so many kids?

It is my duty. I was taught that children are our jewels in heaven. If we don't keep having more and more of them we will weep at what we could have had.

What do you mean? Why would you weep?

You see, we are only as wealthy in heaven, as the posterity that we build. I want to be extra powerful there, so I decided to have as many children as I can.

Do you even like children?

No, not really. I can use my kids to boost my image both here and on the other side.

Are you trying to earn your way into heaven?

You are funny. We don't believe in simply heaven and hell. There are varying degrees of heaven. I must get myself to the top tier of the Celestial kingdom!

How do you do that?

There are a series of steps that must be taken. First I have to get married in the temple and be sealed for time and eternity.

Second, I need to create an eternal family. The only ones exempt are the women who really cannot have kids due to health reasons.

Even those women are looked down on though for not having enough faith to fulfill their role as mothers.

You cannot choose to not have kids?

Heck no. What else would I have in common with the rest of the women in relief society? I don't want to be an outcast!

Is there a lot of pressure to always be pregnant?

Honestly, I use pregnancy as a way to get out of overwhelming callings at church. Having a new baby gives me a small break from all the pressure.

That is a pretty drastic step to take in order to get some relief!

Well it is the only way that I have a valid excuse. It keeps up the perfect image of my family. I don't want my husband to look bad in front of his Priesthood group.

Are you worried you wont be able to support all of them?

Why should I be worried? If Heavenly Father allowed me to get pregnant, I should have the faith that he will provide. Stopping due to financial reasons is a big no no!

Sometimes I wonder if the Mormon church is so big on families because that is the easiest way to get new members into their religion?

I don't know how to answer that one. I need to go, my kids need me.
