Our second episode takes us up to Tropical North Queensland exploring 2 World Heritage Listed regions, the oldest continual rainforests 🌴 in the world and the largest living structure on Earth 🌏, the Great Barrier Reef. We get up close to the native wildlife 🦘 such as the elusive Platypus and wild koalas 🐨 on Magnetic Island, sail the Whitsundays ⛵️, hike to the base of Australia’s highest waterfall 💦 and scuba dive 🤿 the Great Barrier Reef. Along with loads of other adventures in this spectacular region.
Our episodes are intentionally quite elaborate to give a complete understanding of the area and our journey. For your convenience this has been broken up into chapters. If time doesn't allow to watch the whole thing in one viewing then you can watch chapter by chapter and return at any point. Our hope is that the content is entertaining enough to watch in a single sitting.
Chapters:
Introduction 0:00
Finch Hatton & Eungella 01:46
We head into World Heritage Listed Rainforest in Eungella. First stopping at the incredible waterfalls that make up Finch Hatton Gorge then camping in the National Park, getting up close to many of the usually elusive Platypus.
Mackay, Seaforth & Cape Hillsborough 12:28
An afternoon spent in Mackay and Seaforth before a spectacular sunrise at Cape Hillsborough, the only place in Australia where Kangaroo's and Wallabies feed on the beach!
Whitsunday Sailing 18:32
3 days sailing through the white sandy low lying islands that make up the Whitsundays. We explore the world famous Whitehaven beach (regularly voted as the worlds most beautiful) and snorkel nearby islands and reefs interacting with schools of large batfish and even a Maori Wrasse.
Crystal Creek 27:59
We head to the Townsville area where we check out the picturesque Little Crystal Creek with its cascading waterfalls before swimming and camping overnight at Big Crystal Creek.
Magnetic Island 31:28
3 days on possibly Queensland's best island! We rent a topless barbie car and cruise around the island on day 1 checking out a shipwreck, rock wallabies and become inundated with Lorikeets. We finish up our first day hiking to WW2 forts for an exceptional sunset. Along the way we spot wild Koala's grazing in the trees. Day 2 takes us to some of the pristine beaches of the island, Florence and Radical Bay's. We also explore the butterfly forest. On our final day we explore the wildlife park adjacent to our accommodation at Bungalow Bay and have breakfast with Pebbles the Koala.
Wallaman Falls 49:10
Back up into World Heritage Rainforest we explore the immediate area surrounding our campsite in the evening and its wildlife including Pademelon's and Platypus. The following morning we explore Australia's tallest single drop waterfall, Wallaman Falls. We hike to the bottom through thick tropical rainforest passing the worlds most dangerous plant, the Gimpie Gimpie.
Diving the Great Barrier Reef 56:03
We trade in our hiking boots for flippers as we dive the worlds largest living structure. We explore the coral structures of Hastings Reef and interact with the marine life that inhabit it. We also discuss the threats to the reef such as bleaching and climate change.
Kuranda 01:05:35
We board the historical Kuranda scenic Railway and head up to this magestic rainforest mountain town. We check out the wildlife park and army duck at the Rainforestation park and learn about local indigenous culture. We finish up our day passing over the forest canopy on the jaw dropping Skyrail.
Fitzroy Island 01:15:38
Before leaving the Cairns area we head out to Fitroy Island for the day. We visit the Cairns Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Centre on the island and hear about the great things they have been doing to help with the Green Sea Turtle population in the area. We explore the famous Nudie Beach (not nudist sorry) and snorkel the reef right off the island.
Join us on our next Adventure as we head north through the Daintree all the way up to Cape York, the very tip of Australia!
