In 2016, Shannon Maldonado left a comfortable corporate job to open YOWIE, a small boutique shop in Philadelphia selling work by independent artists and designers. Shannon put her savings toward the store, which has since expanded to a boutique hotel and cafe– all featuring local artwork available for purchase. Learning to trust herself and focus on the community around her were key for Shannon while building YOWIE into what it is today.
