I use handmade watercolors in almost every piece I do. They're vibrant, they're rich, they're silky smooth- what's not to love? Using them on wood to paint your wood burned art isn't difficult. Just put a drop of water on the pain, let it sit and absorb it for 2-3 minutes, then stir it up and paint directly on the wood. You don't need any kind of watercolor ground or primer or anything. Literally just raw wood and paint!
