\\\ Yagi Bushi /// 八木節
is a popular folk song that has been danced and sung at the summer festival in both Gunma and Tochigi prefectures for a long time.
The composer and birthplace of this song are unknown, and the dispute over the origin of the two prefectures is still ongoing however I would like to introduce one influential theory here.
It was based on a song that was brought from Niigata prefecture in the 17th century, and after that, it was improved in Gunma and Tochigi prefectures and began to become popular.
"Horigome Genta", he was born in Ashikaga city(formerly known as "Yagi"),Tochigi. And he improved this song and began to spread it in Isesaki city, Gunma.
(Btw, "Bushi" means melody, especially vocal melody.)
When this song was first recorded in 1913 and became known throughout Japan, its light rhythm became popular.After that,it was played in various media, and it began to be sung by popular singers.
There are so many lyrics in this song, but the most popular one is about a Samurai "Kunisada Chūji"(国定忠治).
"Kunisada Chūji", He was very badly behaved as a Samurai, but when the villagers were in trouble by a tyrannical official, he knocked them out and saved the village. In villages he was a super hero.
At present, this folk song is one of most popular dance songs at summer festival.

[Shamisen(三味線)]
is a three-stringed traditional Japanese musical instrument.
The body of shamisen is kind of like a drum, and the drum head is made of artificial plastic material. These days there are various materials. Shamisen is often compared with the Banjo.
As the material for the neck,　Red sandalwood is mainly used.
The strings are made of nylon and silk.

[About myself]
After touring Europe with a Japanese band "Papaya paranoia(パパイヤパラノイア)", moved to Prague. Currently based in Prague and continuing performance.
Lately I have been experimenting Shamisen play with looping using Ableton Live, focusing on old Japanese folk songs however not only traditional but also I would like to play as many different styles as possible.
Speaking of Shamisen, "Geisha", "Tsugaru" or "Kabuki" are well known, but it is possible to play in various styles. Recently shamisen sound is often used in anime songs ,too, and very popular.
