Regina Pacini (born Regina Isabel Luisa Pacini Quintero; Lisbon, 06.01.1871 - Buenos Aires, 18.09.1965): lyric soprano. Her father was the Italian baritone Pietro Andrea Giorgi-Pacini, director of the Teatro San Carlos in Lisbon and composer of about 90 operas, her Spanish mother was Felisa Quintero. Regina was a pupil of Valani (Lisbon) and of Mathilde Marchesi (Paris).
1888: debut at Teatro San Carlos in La Sonnambula (Bellini) with the Queen present.
1888-1904: sang with great success at Teatro San Carlos, Lisbon.
Sang in Milan, Palermo, London, Madrid, Barcelona, Warsaw and St. Petersburg.
1899: debuted in Montevideo and Buenos Aires, where she met the millionaire diplomat Dr. Marcelo Torcuato de Alvear (1868-1942). He asked her to marry him and she made the condition that she wanted to sing for 4 more years before getting married. He followed her for several years from performance to performance, all over the world. In 1907, at the height of her career, she married Dr. Alvear. Alvear served as president of Argentina from 1922-1928.
During World War I, the couple lived in Paris. His actions earned him the Legion of Honor from the French government.
In 1938 Alvear founded the Casa del Teatro in Buenos Aires, a haven for actors, with 45 rooms, two small museums and the headquarters of the Regina Theater named after him.
Regina Pacini only recorded for Fonotipia in 1905 and 1906. A beautiful voice!
The records are from the collection of fellow blogger Emilio, who is now very active at archive.org, where he has posted thousands of 78rpm.records, LPs and photos/posters, mainly on opera. Highly recommended!
I edited Emilio's Pacini recordings (which can be found in unedited version at archive.org at Emilio's). I have taken out the worst noise and ticks.
All recordings are with piano accompaniment, except tracks 1 and 8, where an obbligato flute part can also be heard.
