The Setup (Pre-mission Context):

This mission is only available if the player chose the "Obvious" approach during "Planning the Big Score." It relies on the equipment acquired in previous setup missions:

"Sidetracked": Where a train engine and flatbed cars were stolen by Trevor using a Cargobob.

"Driller": Where a massive drilling machine was acquired.

The selection of a crew of drivers and gunmen.

The Heist Begins – Stage 1: The Distraction and Breach

Gathering at the Staging Area: Michael, Trevor, Franklin, Lester, and their chosen crew (drivers and gunmen) gather at a pre-determined staging area (likely Trevor's airstrip or a secluded warehouse) where the stolen train engine, flatbed cars, and the drilling machine are ready.

Creating a Diversion (Explosives): The plan initiates with a massive, pre-planted explosive charge detonating near the Union Depository. This creates a colossal explosion, generating a five-star wanted level and instantly drawing the attention of all available law enforcement, including the police, NOOSE (National Office of Security Enforcement), and eventually, the military.

Breaching the Vault: While the city's attention is focused on the explosion, the drilling machine (driven by one of the crew or a protagonist) is used to bore directly into the Union Depository's vault. This is a loud and destructive entry, signifying the "obvious" nature of the attack.

Securing the Gold: Michael and Franklin (along with gunmen) enter the vault, which is absolutely packed with gold bullion. They quickly begin to load the massive quantities of gold onto palettes.
