Описание: This video was compiled with some basic information about the process of moving an offshore rig of this magnitude, with commentary about some spec's for the Platform and Hull, as well as some information regarding the origins and eventual location of the Olympus Platform. It was fabricated at Kiewit Offshore Services in Ingleside Texas (my former employer), and my current employer, J. M. Davidson, was contracted to fabricate certain parts of this project. It's a very complex process from start to finish, and a lot of fun to be involved with something of this scope. I hope it's informative for you and interesting to watch. Olympus is a TLP, and the largest one in the Gulf of Mexico at approx 120,000 tons. My estimate in the video was a bit high regarding the actual weight of the structure, but at 120,000 tons, it's no slouch, and still massive none the less. TLP stands for: Tension Leg Platform. It basically implies that the rig floats on the hull, which, once in place, will be anchored to the ocean floor via Tension Cables, while remaining buoyant. Once fully operational this rig will be capable of producing 100,000 barrels a day. This rig will be 20% heavier than the previous record holder which was also a Shell rig, residing in Shell's Ursa field. This rig will live in Shell's Mars-B field.
