After seeing these djenty boys live some time ago I got inspired to cover this super catchy tune. As I found it pretty difficult to learn and internalize the rhythms and riffs, I put them on screen for you to play along with them. Let me know what you think!
Some additional notes:
Tuning is 7-string drop G# (G# D# G# C# F# A# D#), I play rhythm on the baritone which is tuned to the lower 6 of these, and all the leads and other parts are on a normal guitar in D# standard.
The 'time signatures' do not coincide with the time signature of the song: Most if not all parts are just in 4/4 time, the song (especially the drums) never imply 7/8 or 22/4. But the riffs are played as a polymeter: A repeating phrase whose length does not line up with the barlines, therefore "shifting" around as the song progresses. When I put a time signature of 7/8, this just means that I view the riff as a repeating phrase counted in sevens, instead of counting the 4 beats which are given by the drums.
A dot over/under the note denotes a palm mute.
Not all sections have tabs, some sections are (almost) entirely rhythm based so it would just be a lot of zeroes. Listen and look if you want to figure out what notes to play, most of the time it is just the open G#.
The riffs are color coded: All riffs with a green glow are based on the same underlying rhythm, all orange riffs share some rhythm, etc.
At some points the riffs cut off at a margin of a bar (Meshuggah style) to line up with the drums again.
Green - The intro and chorus riff, I remember this as the sequence 3 4 2 2 3 (or 3 3 4 2 2 with an offset)
Blue - Verse riff, in my head this is visualized by .|.|..||| where a dot is one eighth note and a lines is a dotted eighth.
Yellow - This is more of an intermission and has no real intricate rhythmical patterns.
Purple - Consists of two parts: The first part is just chugging on the fat string, second part is a complex sort of ascending line. I have no real pointers for this, just memorize it.
Orange - The monster. This one surely gave me the most trouble. During the solo the pattern is an 8-bar long one: I count
(3 4 3 3) (4 3 3 3 3 4) (2 2 3 4) (3 3 4) (3 3 2 2).
After the solo the final two groups get dropped, so the pattern is then 22 beats long.
Red - If you've come this far, this should be easy.
