When do we use the future perfect continuous?

We use the future perfect continuous tense to talk about how long a continued action will have been happening at a specific future time or before another future action occurs. The action could begin in the past, present, or future, but must continue into the future in order for us to use the future perfect continuous.

Let’s take a look at some examples of the future perfect continuous:

Next July, Jane will have been working for this company for five years.

By the time his mom gets home, he will have been playing video games for 4 hours.

In ten minutes, he will have been jogging for two hours straight.

This evening, he will be exhausted because he will have been driving for seven hours.

These are the future perfect phrases in these sentences:

will have been working

will have been playing

will have been jogging

will have been driving

You can see we are using the construction: subject +will +have + been + (verb)ing. This construction is used NO MATTER the subject of the sentence.
