Il Castello di Celsa si erge lungo la via secondaria della Francigena che da Colle Val d’Elsa porta a Siena e domina il panorama che si estende da Siena sino al Monte Amiata. Il nucleo originale risale al XIII secolo, ma fu nel XVI secolo che la famiglia senese dei Celsi volle rinnovare ed abbellire il castello per opera dell’architetto Baldassarre Peruzzi, del cui intervento è testimonianza la splendida cappella circolare e il muro di terrazzamento ornato con nicchie parallelo al viale d’ accesso.
Dopo essere stata devastata dalle truppe imperiali nella metà del Cinquecento, nel 1612 passò alla famiglia senese dei de Vecchi. Sul finire dell’Ottocento Maria Antinori Aldobrandini, figlia di Giulia De Vecchi e bisnonna degli attuali proprietari, incaricò l’Architetto Mariani di effettuare un’ulteriore trasformazione del castello, sopraelevando la torre est e coronandola di merli, fino a portare l’edificio alla sua forma attuale.

At the end of the nineteenth century, Maria Antinori Aldobrandini, daughter of Giulia De Vecchi and great-grandmother of the current owners, commissioned the architect Mariani to carry out a further transformation of the castle, raising the east tower and crowning it with battlements, up to bringing the building to the its current form.
