Описание: Complete your beautiful paper vine tray by weaving the walls and attaching elegant handles!

This is Part 2 of our round tray tutorial, where we transform the flat base into a stunning, functional serving piece with two comfortable handles.

Start Here:
This is Part 2 of our Round Tray tutorial. If you haven't watched Part 1 yet, start there to learn how to weave the base:    • How To Weave  A Paper Vine Tray - Part 1: ...

What You'll Create:
Transform your flat tray base into a beautiful dimensional serving tray with smooth walls and two sturdy woven handles. The finished tray measures approximately 2 inches high with handles that perfectly balance form and function—ideal for serving, display, or as a handmade gift.

Skills You'll Learn:
✨ Three-rod wale technique for transitioning from base to walls
✨ Pairing weave for smooth, even wall construction
✨ Closing rounds correctly for a professional finish
✨ Working on a solid form to shape dimensional pieces
✨ Trimming and tucking weavers for invisible endings
✨ Border finish technique for a clean, polished rim
✨ Determining center placement for symmetrical handles
✨ Wrapped handle construction with spliced rods
✨ Creating secure handle attachments with the loop technique
✨ Proper drying and varnishing for lasting durability

What You'll Need:
• Completed tray base from Part 1
• Additional paper vine rods for walls and handles (approximately 80 rods)
• Solid form (glass or plastic container wrapped in a plastic bag)
• Elastic band for securing to form
• Heavy weight
• Rotating circle or paper towel (for smooth turning)
• Cutters/scissors
• Awl or knitting needle
• Clothespins
• Ruler
• Sewing pins for marking
• Acrylic varnish (3/4 water + 1/4 varnish solution, plus thin coat)
• Polymer glue

Essential Preparation Videos:

• How to splice weavers:    • How to splice weavers

Perfect Kit for This Project:
Start with our Beginner’s Weaving Kit with Tools https://weevyn.com/collections/weavin... – it includes 150 paper vine rods plus all the tools you’ll need (doesn’t include the solid form).
To reach 180 rods for this tray, add the Paper Vine Refill Kit (50 rods) https://weevyn.com/products/paper-vin....
180 rods are enough to weave a 9-inch tray. If you have a solid form of a different size, you may need a different number of rods.

Why Use a Form?
Working on a solid form is essential for creating even, dimensional walls that maintain their shape and integrity. I show you exactly how to secure your weaving to the form and work from above for perfect tension control. The form ensures your tray walls won't flare outward, helping you achieve a professional, consistent wall height all around.

Mastering the Border Finish:
The border finish creates that clean, polished rim that makes handwoven pieces look professional. I guide you step-by-step through this advanced technique, including how to close the border when standing stakes run out. Watch carefully as I use rod scraps as guides—this visual aid makes following the pattern much easier!

Handle Construction Made Simple:
Creating matching, symmetrical handles is one of the most rewarding parts of this project. You'll learn how to find the perfect center of your tray, determine ideal handle placement, and use the wrapped handle technique that's both beautiful and incredibly strong. The loop-and-lock method for securing handles ensures they'll never come loose, even with regular use.

Unique Techniques:
This tutorial covers advanced wall-weaving techniques, including proper round closure, working with double stakes, and the critical transition from base to walls. The three-rod wale creates a strong foundation row that sets up perfect walls, while the pairing technique produces smooth, even surfaces ideal for serving pieces.
