This is How I Use Host Plants to Attract Butterflies to My Florida Garden

Описание: One of the most important plants to have in a butterfly garden are larval host plants. These plants are specific to the type of butterfly they support, so it is important to understand which host plants support the lifecycle of the butterflies you would love to have regularly visiting your garden. Female butterflies search for their host plants to lay eggs on them. Host plants provide the perfect nutrition for the caterpillars so they can make the complete metamorphosis to become a butterfly or moth. In this video I share a few examples of butterflies and their host plants and then we focus on Passiflora incense and how I use it to support the lifecycles of Gulf Fritillary and Zebra Longwing butterflies in my Florida garden. I share how I propagate this vining plant so I can have more of it growing throughout my garden including how I root it from cuttings. This video covers a lot of information about host plants and would benefit anyone interested in butterfly gardening.

I live in Florida and I am in gardening zone 10a. I have turned my entire backyard into a butterfly garden and I love sharing the day to day details with you in the hopes of inspiring you to plant or expand your own butterfly garden. I encourage the use of pollinator friendly native plants that provide enough diversity to create a complete ecosystem that supports all phases of the butterfly lifecycle.
