Tribute to 150th anniversary of our national song, poetry of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, circa 1870s.
This cover version is also a tribute to the beautiful music composed by Hemanta Kumar Mukherjee for this poem and immortalised in the Hindi film 'Anand Math', 1952. The original recordings in the film comprised a solo of Hemant Kumar, backed by chorus as well as a rendering by Latya Mangeshkar with Hemant Kumar singing the alaap in the background.
Surojit wishes to express his utmost admiration towards the original poetry as well as the tunes composed for it and gratitude to listeners for excusing any shortcomongs observed in this cover version.
