3 main types.
***forgot to mention in video, you can do the auxiliary dim7 on the I to add interest to a Imaj7. Kinda sounds like a sub for a V7#5.
Also try. IV #IVdim I I7
This is found in "Frosty The Snowman!"
1) "Duwop." On the #i scale degree, leads to a ii chord. Functions as a VI7 chord. In a sense, it is similar to the 2nd type of dim7 chord, since it is acting like a secondary dominant.
2) Dominant Function. Resolves to the I. This diminished occurs most commonly on the vii and ii scale degrees, but can be used on the iv and bvi as well. **Can approach any major/minor chord a half step below and it will act as a secondary dominant. Has a more "serious" minor iv in major type sound. Bittersweet.
3) Auxiliary. Most commonly played on the bIII or #iv. Can lead up to iii or down to ii. #iv is more associated with the I and IV chords, while bIII is associated with the ii and iii chords. Has a more "cheeky" sound to it.
***Diminished extensions: On the highest string of your diminished chord, use your pinky to raise that note by a whole step (2 frets) to create some movement.
