Life As An Undocumented Immigrant

Описание: FLAT ROCK, N.C. -- Thousands of Americans tuned in to watch President Obama's speech on immigration policy Thursday night, and for one Hendersonville family especially it was must-see TV.

Carolina Siliceo, 22, became a legal resident two years ago under the Dream Act, but her parents and her boyfriend are still considered undocumented immigrants. For them, driving, voting and working are illegal. They cannot get insurance nor attend many colleges.

"It was very scary to drive, but I knew that I had to work, I needed money I had to go to school and I couldn't sit around being afraid," Siliceo said. "If I had let that fear become an obstacle I wouldn't be where I am, happy to have a degree."

Siliceo graduated from Brevard College and is now applying to graduate schools. She says she would like to become an advocate for social justice and the Latino community.
