In 2015, Josep Maria Bartomeu launched his Strategic Plan for the future of Barcelona. In it was La Masia 360, a project designed to apply modern thinking and strategy to their fabled academy - responsible for producing some of the greatest players of the 21st century. Excellent in principle, but fast forward to 2021, and La Masia 360 has been largely written off as a total failure. Accusations of money wasting, mismanagement and poor decisions have plagued the new venture, leading former players such as Xavi and even Johan Cruyff's nephew to hit out at Bartomeu and the direction he had taken the academy. To date, it has been harder to reach the senior team from the youth ranks, something which is simply not the Barcelona way.
