Driverless vehicles could soon be navigating Charlotte streets, after residents reported seeing a fleet of Waymo vehicles dropped off in Uptown.
The buzz began with a Reddit post claiming Waymo cars were spotted near the Panthers' practice field. Waymo, which already operates in 10 cities, was unable to confirm the reports on Tuesday. The North Carolina Department of Transportation deferred comment to Waymo.
In 2017, the North Carolina General Assembly passed a law fully allowing autonomous vehicles and preventing local governments from restricting them.
Some Charlotte drivers say the prospect has them on edge.
