This App Blocks Ads INSIDE Your iPhone Apps (Worth It?)

Описание: You pay for Apple News+ and still get ads. A new tool called Filtr finally blocks ads INSIDE your apps on iPhone, iPad and Mac, not just in the browser. Here is how it actually works, what it can and cannot block, and whether it is worth the money when free options exist.

What Filtr is:
A paid add-on to Wipr, the popular Safari ad blocker, by indie developer Kaylee Calderolla
It blocks ads system-wide in apps, across iPhone, iPad and Mac

The genuinely new tech:
It uses a brand-new iOS 26 and macOS 26 feature called URL Filters
Unlike a VPN or DNS blocker, it intercepts ad URLs locally, before they ever leave your device
That means URL-level precision (not just whole domains), it is power-efficient, fully private (the app never sees your traffic), and it runs at the same time as your VPN, iCloud Private Relay or custom DNS

The honest limits:
It does NOT block YouTube ads, Reddit-app ads, other streaming-service ads, or ads inside X or Instagram
It DOES block ads in Apple News (great, since you pay to avoid them), some games, and many apps
Some users report it missed ads in their apps, and because of Apple's API the developer cannot see what is being blocked, so troubleshooting is hard

Is it worth it?
Filtr is about 25 dollars lifetime, on top of Wipr at about 5 dollars, and the pricing is a bit hidden inside the app
Critics: NextDNS (free tier), AdGuard DNS and Pi-hole already block app ads for free
Defenders: those are DNS or VPN based, while Filtr uses the new local URL-filter API, so it is more private and runs alongside a VPN. AdGuard is adopting the same API too
Verdict: if you want zero-fuss, private, local app-ad blocking and you like supporting an indie dev, it is worth it. If you are happy configuring NextDNS or Pi-hole, you can get most of it free
