India-EU Sign Historic "Mother of All Deals" FTA | PM Modi Says New Era of Trade Begins

Описание: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed the signing of the historic Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union, calling it the beginning of a “new era” in bilateral relations. Addressing the media in Delhi, PM Modi said the agreement reflects growing trust and deepening economic cooperation between the two partners.

European Council President António Costa stressed the need for a collective partnership with India, underlining cooperation on global challenges such as clean energy and climate resilience. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen thanked PM Modi for India’s hospitality and praised the country’s growth, calling the agreement the “mother of all deals.” She said the FTA would create a combined market of nearly two billion people and is based on a win-win partnership.

Under the agreement, tariffs on nearly 97 percent of European exports to India will be eliminated or reduced. Key sectors such as machinery, electrical equipment, aircraft, and spacecraft will see zero tariffs, while processed food products including bread, pasta, biscuits, chocolate, and pet food will also become cheaper.

The India-EU FTA marks one of the most ambitious trade agreements for both sides, with major implications for trade, investment, and long-term economic integration.
