Описание: The final part of a four-part virtual geology field trip around Flamborough Head, east Yorkshire. Shore and cliff sections provide continuous exposures of the Flamborough Formation of the Chalk Group broken only by in-filled pre-Devensian palaeo-valleys and several faults and landslips. The Flamborough Formation lacks seams of flint so correlation is reliant upon marl bands, bedding patterns and index fossils. It includes the famous Flamborough Sponge Bed from which well-preserved, three dimensional specimens are observed. Quaternary deposits become an equally important focus of study with evidence for multiple tills and interglacial fluvial and lacustrine environments. Geomorphologically, the southern side of the headland lacks the text book features of marine erosion experienced in previous parts of the tour but it retains an attractive charm of its own up to the Sewerby Buried Cliff where Flamborough Head ends and Holderness begins.
