Subaru Shifter Stuck In Park - bypass and repair tips - brake light switch

Описание: This car stranded my customer at the grocery store because the shifter wouldn't come out of park. In this video I will show you how to get the shifter out of park if this happens to you. I will also show you how to replace the brake light switch that is the root cause. The brake light switch can stick or the contacts may no longer work and then the brake lights can stop working and then shifter will not come out of park.

To get the shifter to move pop off the little round cover to the left of the the shifter and insert a long thin rigid object (like the ink cartridge of a ball point pen) into the hole and depress the lever in the hole and keep it depressed while you move the shifter down to nuetral.

the updated TSB says to put a 0.020" feeler gauge between the brake light switch plunger and the brake pedal while installing the switch. I didn't the entire TSB before filming this and didn't have any issues with the brake lights of shifter. When this switch fails it may also illuminate the ABS light. the VSC light, the check engine light, the MIL or many others.

Its best to use the updated factory brake light switch 83311FJ001 which you can get from the dealer or on amazon. Link below
