The Piló de Bellmaig is a well known peak to many who live in or visit the Vallespir. It's particularly well know due to the annual 'KV Belmaig' challenge. This is a race from Arles-sur Tech to the summit via the most direct route, which happens to be exactly one vertical kilometre (kilomètre vertical) in ascent, with the fastest competitors reaching the top in under 40 minutes!
This route follows a different route the summit, but generally follows back down the same route of the challenge. Whichever route you choose, you still have to climb a 'vertical kilometre'!
