The Banjo Op. 15 - Louis Moreau Gottschalk 1853 Piano (Le Banjo)

Описание: Hello everyone! I'm so excited to share this: The Banjo Op. 15 Grotesque Fantasie, or "Le Banjo", is a composition by Louis Moreau Gottschalk written in 1853. It imitates the various strumming and picking techniques of pre-civil war banjo playing and ends with two variations on Stephen Foster's classic Americana song "Camptown Races". Gottschalk's works were heavily influenced by syncopated Louisiana Creole and Caribbean music and is one of the earliest instances of this in classical music, a precursor to ragtime and jazz a few decades later.

I had started working on this piece a few years ago but never got around to recording it, until it was recently commissioned by Bill Thompson (you can find his dedicated Gottschalk resource website here: http://thompsonian.info/gottschalk.html ) and I finally had the chance to properly learn and record it.
