Film premiere, performance and fireside chat celebrating the life of music icon JACKIE SHANE, featuring Nicky Lawrence & Ravyn Wngz.

In tribute to Jackie Shane, the boundary-shattering 1960s music icon and pioneer – director/actor/vocalist/multi-hyphenate Nicky Lawrence, whose sold out show “Ugly Black Woman” rocked and amazed Paradise Theatre audiences, has partnered with Ravyn Wngz for a special evening of music, film and expression: MY NAME IS JACKIE.

This one-night-only presentation will include the world premiere of the new film MY NAME IS JACKIE (45min), directed by Nicky Lawrence, plus a live performance, including an original song performed by Nicky Lawrence, and will feature Ravyn in a new capacity like you’ve never seen her before!

MY NAME IS JACKIE will be followed by an intimate fireside chat with Nicky Lawrence and Rayvn Wngz, as they celebrating the inimitable Jackie Shane, her life, music and impact on the Black and trans community. Juno award-winning guitarist Justin Abedin will join them in song.

Ravyn Wngz is a performer, dancer, activist, Black Lives Matter Toronto organizer, who played the role of “Jackie Shane” in the new Canadian Heritage Minute celebrating Jackie’s legacy. As an abolitionist and co-founder of ILL NANA/DiverseCity Dance Company, Black Lives Matter Canada, Ravyn is committed to telling stories that reflect inclusion and create awareness in the community.
