Orientalist painters are Western artists, predominantly from the 19th century, who specialized in Oriental subjects. Some painted purely exotic fantasy pieces. Others, particularly those who travelled to the East and even lived there, produced some realistic and often moving images. One of the leading artists of the Orientalist movement was French painter, Jean-Leon Gerome.
