On one weekend in July 2022 the visit of the Tall Ships Races to Esbjerg, Denmark, coincided with the Fannikerdagene festival over the water on the island of Fanø.
The Tall Ships Races comes to Esbjerg every few years, the previous visit being in 2018. The Fannikerdagene festival is held each year in Norby on the second weekend of July.
The folk music culture of Fanø is rooted in the era of sailing ships, fishing and maritime trade. In 1875, 160 sailing ships were based at Fanø.
