The coalition government has decided to install a grand statue of Telugu Desam Party founder and former Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) in the capital city of Amaravati. However, YS Jagan, YSRCP leaders, former ministers, and Sakshi media are spreading intense misinformation over this issue. A false narrative is being circulated claiming that the government is spending ₹1,700 crores of public money on the NTR statue. The truth is that the government is not spending even a single rupee on the construction of this statue. The government has only allotted land on a hill near Neerukonda village in the Amaravati region. The proposed 300-foot statue will require around 3,500 tonnes of bronze, and the entire cost will be borne through donations collected from NTR admirers and TDP supporters from India and abroad. Since this is purely a party initiative, any required funds are being managed by the party itself. Despite this, Jagan is attempting to politicize the NTR statue issue. Ironically, during his tenure as Chief Minister, Jagan allegedly misused public funds extensively to install YSR statues across the state. Hundreds of crores were spent on YSR memorials and statues, including ₹254 crores for a massive YSR statue and Smriti Vanam at the Polavaram project site, and ₹40 crores for YSR Smriti Vanam and beautification works in Pulivendula. Several crores were also spent through local bodies for statues in Vijayawada, Kadapa, municipalities, and villages. Additionally, government lands were allotted free of cost for YSRCP offices, and some party offices were constructed using public funds. In several places, NTR statues were allegedly damaged and replaced with YSR statues. Now, when the Telugu Desam Party is funding the NTR statue on its own, false propaganda is being spread accusing the government of spending public money. Paid activists and loyal voices are also being pushed forward to file petitions and raise controversies. The claim that ₹1,700 crores of government money is being spent is nothing but a classic case of “the thief shouting thief.” With multiple controversies related to Tirumala coming to light, this propaganda appears to be a deliberate attempt to divert public attention using friendly media outlets. Watch the full video to understand the facts behind the NTR statue controversy and the politics surrounding it.
